I know I’m a little late with posting this, but last Monday I was featured on the 6th week of MusicOnPlay.net’s #MusicOnPlay Mondays with two never before heard tracks, “Hey Now” produced by Rickie Jacobs and “I Don’t Know” produced by D-Tox.

“Hey Now” is fresh out of the lab, and “I Don’t Know” is something that I’ve had in the stash for a whiiiile (peep how I say I’m 19 in the verse, lol) but it still holds up. Download both tracks below:

Articulate #MusicMonday Mixtape

Articulate’s really been one of the growing number of MCs in Baltimore that’s really using the internet well to get his music out there on a really frequent basis, so it’s apt that he’s the first rapper I’ve heard of to do a Twitter-themed mixtape (Soulja Boy did one, too, but Artic beat him to the punch by a couple weeks). Don’t get me wrong, I hate Twitter and think it’s the lamest web 2.0 trend ever, I’m just saying it’s shrewd of him. I’m still not sure how much I like Artic as an rapper, he writes verses well enough but he’s got that kind of hoarse grain to his voice like he’s pushing out the words too hard that kinda bothers me about a lot of newer rappers like Wale or Charles Hamilton. Still, there’s some definite good music on his recent releases and I think he’s got some real promise. Anyway, you can get this on ItsArtic.com, and guests include Wordsmith, Bex, PenDragon and Rickie Jacobs.

I really like the off-the-cuff feel of the track and the way he just flows and flows, and then shrugs it off at the end with “this ain’t even a song, it’s just a verse I wrote just to be leakin’ somethin’.”

Now its my goal to make sure he’s sure he likes me as a rapper LOL. And even though he’s not a fan of Twitter, I’m glad that he’s taking notice of my use of the internet to get my music out there. I take pride in that!

#musicmonday (please RT) the mixtape

Check out this quick review of  my #musicmonday (please RT) the mixtape that I dropped a few weeks ago. This was just a  project that I put together real quick just to put something out there before a real, more official project comes out (which is coming very soon!), and I am very happy to be getting such a good response. Shouts to Mr. Valentine for this!

This is actually my first Articulate download. I got it directly from his website (which I’m gonna have to get at em about. I’m shopping for a layout somethin like that). The cover artwork is plain, but I think it was on purpose. The mixtape is a direct play off of the success of #musicmonday, and the swift exposure an artist can gain from it. After going through all of the tracks, I found out somethin I dig about Artic: He can spit. Lyricist are hard to come by, and they aren’t often entertaining. Most are dry and preachy. He proved how fun he is by rippin the “Make the trap say Aye” beat. His flow always flips during a span of less the 2 bars. He goes from slow to flip flow effortlessly, and shows his engineering skills by sampling Nas’s sleep is the cousin of death for a bar of his verse, and pitch shifted it perfectly like a DJ was in the studio. And Ricky Jacobs comes on the second verse closing the song properly. The mixtape is worth Re-Tweeting. Check out his website itsartic.com for more heat, and some cool content.
